Fashion month this year had pretty much been uneventful. New York, Milan and London all went without a hitch. In fact, the most exciting thing to happen was to see Kaia Geber’s return to the runway since making her debut in 2017.

And then as soon as it came to Paris we had Naomi Campbell closing the show at Saint Laurent (which was held at the Eiffel Tower no less), the comedian who crashed the Chanel catwalk and got bounced out by the world’s most glamorous security guard aka Gigi Hadid (no lie, read all about it here. We would NOT want to cross Gigi.) and the Balenciaga show.

Where do we even begin with the Balenciaga show?

Ever since Demna Gvasalia (of Vetements fame) took over as Creative Director of Balenciaga, his kitschy designs have won the hearts of both industry critics and consumers. From pasar malam style bags to Bernie Sanders logo shoes, we were curious to see what Demna might meme next. And man did he rise to the challenge. This time round there were OTT boxy parkas (is this his way of taking the shoulder pad trend to the next level?), giant bell-shaped dresses (seriously, you could hide a person and a whole bunch of snacks underneath) and…Hello Kitty bags.

For men.

The creative director took the classic Vile Top Handle Bag and gave it a cute little Sanrio twist. And that’s not all. He layered the bag to give it trompe l’oeil effect, making it look like you were on the way for a sleepover at your friends and had to bring your chou chou (smelly pillow) along with you.

I know what you’re thinking. Who asked for these? That’s right no one. But guess what? They’re here and will most probably be sold out next year.

Isn’t fashion wild?
