In case you haven’t been keeping up with the Covid-19 news, World Health Organisation has announced that it has now reached a pandemic level.

A lot of countries such as France, Italy and even our neighbouring Malaysia are in lockdown in a bid to control the spread of the virus.

People are advised to practise social distancing, so it’s only apt that events that constitute as public gatherings are postponed or cancelled. One such event is the Met Gala in New York City.

The event by Vogue that sees celebrities turning up in their most avant garde outfits according to the theme—this year’s is “About Time”—has been postponed.

Anna Wintour, the Editor in Chief of Vogue, released a statement, saying, “One day that will not arrive on schedule will be the opening of the Costume Institute’s exhibition, About Time. Due to the unavoidable and responsible decision by the Metropolitan Museum to close its doors, About Time, and the opening night gala, will not take place on the date scheduled.”

The Metropolitan Museum is not the only one erring on the side of caution. Bille Eilish has postponed her March and April tour dates, SXSW is cancelled, and Coachella has been postponed till October—and these are just some of the events that have been affected by the Covid-19 outbreak.

The virus outbreak has led to panic-buying in some countries and a shortage of toilet rolls and hand sanitisers.

LVMH, the parent company of Louis Vuitton, announced that they would be using three of their perfume and cosmetics factories to manufacture hand sanitisers and distribute them to French hospitals, in particular the 39 public hospitals, “at no charge”.

LVMH also houses cosmetics brands such as Dior, Guerlain and Givenchy.

Meanwhile, in Singapore, the number of cases has hit 243, although 109 has fully recovered and been discharged from hospitals.

While Singapore is not in a lockdown, the government has recommended everyone to practise social distancing and avoid crowded places.
