What to wear to…The City
Destinations: Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur
Unless it’s going to be winter in any of these cities, pack items that don’t stray too far from your style back home. People that live in cities also tend to be pretty stylish, and the locals tend to take pride in their dressing. While it’s not a prerequisite for you to be a walking fashion plate (you are on holiday after all), we’d recommend you leave the sloppy shorts and slippers back home. City holidays also tend to feature itineraries that require a lot of walking and transitional so make sure to pack comfortable shoes and a lightweight jacket that you can easily throw on when the temperature dips.
What to wear to…The Trek
Destinations: Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos
These places are hot, humid and depending on how physical you’d like to get, you might find yourself on a jungle trek or temple hopping. Light weight cotton t-shirts and shorts are advisable, or gym gear as you’ll be moving around a lot but you might want to throw a scarf or thin cotton pants into your bag if you plan on visiting a temple as some of them require women to be covered up before entry. Go hands-free with a fanny pack or a backpack as well.
What to wear to…The Market
Destinations: Bangkok, Taipei, Hong Kong
Who doesn’t love the hunt of a good bargain at a market? If shopping is your idea of a perfect holiday, chances are you’ll be planning to head down to one of these cities for a quick trip. Make sure to wear simple, classic basics that makes it easier for you to envision your shopping purchases with. Complicated fashion-forward pieces are just going to slow you down in the dressing room! A lot of the smaller stalls in the markets also tend to not have changing rooms and if you’re lucky, some store owners would hand you a sarong to cover your modesty. Pack light weight slip dresses or a camisole and leggings in plain, neutral tones that will allow you to try on clothes with ease.
What to wear to…The Beach
Destinations: Bali, Phuket, Boracay
Now is the time to live out your best bohemian life possible. You’re surrounded by miles and miles of beautiful beaches and your dressing should reflect that. Break out the floaty tops, fun dresses, sandals, baskets and beach bags if you want. In fact, all the outfits that you’ve ever felt were too summery for the city should go straight into your suitcase. But remember, the most important accessory you can have is your sunblock because SPF matches everything.
