We all associate sequins with the festive season, given their sparkly nature that lends itself so well to party dressing. But, what happens when it’s over? So very often, we invest lots of money into our party looks only to stash them away to collect dust until the next Christmas or New Year comes along.
This 2019, however, has been somewhat different when it comes to sequins. Rather than remaining a trend that is forgotten come start of the year, they’re as prevalent as ever. Featured on designer runways across all fashion capitals back in September 2018, the likes of Alexander Wang, Alexander McQueen and Saint Laurent all showed us that spring deserves an extra touch of sparkle this 2019.
We all know how to rock sequins when it comes to heading out, but can you wear sequins during the day? According to fashion powerhouses, you absolutely can. The key things to note are the colours and style of the item that you have chosen when you want to embrace sequins during the daytime. What that means is, avoid anything too loud or over-the-top.
The easiest way to ensure you hit the mark is to introduce sequins for just one item. Then keep the rest pared down and casual to balance this sparkly piece out. Alternatively, opt for sequins in a muted colour palette and pair with similar tones in different fabrics.

Why not take your sequins to the pool? Who says they need to only belong in the clubs anyway? This high waisted bikini is both glamorous and practical for your beach weekend trips, or even vacation hotspots for the ‘gram. Add a crochet coverall and you’re summer ready.
Rather than full sequins covering your entire garment, keep it casual by having just a touch of sparkle, like this asymmetrical sequin hem floaty top. We love this piece because it can easily transition from day to night, depending on what else you team it with. Go with simple white denim shorts for the day and a black leather skirt for the clubs.
This is a fantastic and easy way to work sequins into your spring look. A bumbag screams street style, even one covered in rainbow coloured sequins such as this gem.
This is a great addition because it works for both day and night. Team it with your stiletto heels and diamante drop earrings during the evening or, carry a wicker bag and large brim hat (another hot SS’19 trend) for a laidback brunch look.
This is a super bling dress and yes, it would look great for evening frolics. That being said, it can also look super during the day too. Try muting it with a neutral tone cardi, or wear with blush pink flat sandals and oversized sunnies for your weekend shopping sprees.
The adjustable ribbon tie at the hem and the slouchy shape of this top makes it more appropriate for daytime casual styling than other sequin tops. Pair it with white sneakers and some denim shorts for your chilled weekend plans.
An easy way to work this embellishment is to overlay another printed fabric that can work with, but also overpower, the sequins. This snakeskin print under a layer of sequins is perfect, especially in these dark shades too. Plus it adds a cool edge to your ensemble.
