Mental health issues can hit anyone, including you, me and celebrities. Talking about mental health issues is seen as a taboo in the past, but thankfully, a lot has changed. More people are willing to open up about their struggles with depression, anxiety and other mental health conditions and seek help from professionals, friends and family.
Unfortunately, some people still view mental health conditions as a stigma and are less willing to discuss it. Unlike some illnesses, mental health issues are not always obvious even to a keen observer, so unless one speaks up about their condition, you might never know what they’re going through.
Thankfully, advocates, influencers and celebrities have come forward to open up about their experiences to minimise the stigma surrounding mental health conditions. Here are nine local celebrities who have shared their stories.
If you think you may have the symptoms of mental illness or want to find out more, you can visit sites like SingHealth and the Institute of Mental Health. If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts or know someone who is thinking about suicide, you can contact the Samaritans of Singapore at 1800-221-4444 for help.
