It’s almost year-end and whether you’re going to a Dinner and Dance or a music festival, glitter eyeshadow is sure to play a part in your makeup look. Not interested in looking like a disco ball? Don’t worry, there are glitter eyeshadows that are so subtle they add the faintest hint of sheen. We’ve rounded up a whole range of glitter eyeshadows that range from subtle to the extra AF for you to choose from. But first, a few tips on how to wear glitter eyeshadow.
Get more for less
Unless you are working with gel-textured glitter, to get maximum payoff, start with an eye primer. Next, dab on the product using your fingers. While you can use a brush, the fluffy fibres of the brush scatter the crushed glitter everywhere giving an extremely diffused look. When you use your finger you’re able to pick enough product and pack it on for a more pigmented finish.
Fixing it up
When working with glitter, expect some fallout, so do your eye makeup first before applying your foundation. You can also keep a micellar water and Q-tips on hand to cleanse any fallout. Glitter can often take away any definition of the eyes, so it’s best to use eyeliner and mascara to make your eyes look more defined. If you don’t want to use glitter all over the lid, you can dot it onto the centre of your eyelid to give your eyeshadow dimension.
To balance the look, you can keep skin fresh using only a light base and skipping any highlighter and contour. To finish off, pick a neutral gloss to keep the lips minimal.
Making it more wearable
If you intend to wear a glitter eye look in the day, you can opt to wear your hair down. This will add a casual vibe to your look. However, if the occasion calls for it, you can definitely go with a chic chignon or updo.
