With sustainability becoming more and more of a concern with consumers, it’s no surprise that the beauty industry is also making substantial efforts to reduce their carbon footprint and make a positive impact on the environment. You may have seen an increasing number of brands claiming that their products are eco-friendly and hence, great for the environment and you. However, what does it really mean to be eco-friendly?
In a nutshell, eco-friendly brands use sustainable ingredients, which are ethically sourced raw materials that can be grown and harvested without doing any damage to the environment, and reduce their use of packaging or make the switch to recycled or recyclable packaging. They also look for alternatives to replace non-biodegradables like silicone and plastic microbeads in their products or use renewable energy from the sun and wind to power daily operations and manufacturing processes.
For example, 90 percent of French medicine and dermo-cosmetics company Pierre Fabre’s (which includes brands like Avene, Klorane and Rene Furterer) manufacturing waste is used: 65 percent via recycling and 35 percent for energy production.
By choosing to use eco-friendly beauty products, you are not only helping to save the earth, your skin will also thank you for saving it from harmful and harsh chemicals like sulphates and parabens. Here are 10 eco-friendly beauty brands that you should shop at now.
