Crop tops may have been reigning supreme over the fashion industry in the last few years, but guess what? It’s about to become even shorter. While underwear as outerwear is not a foreign concept (seriously, just take a quick scroll through Instagram), fashion designers have been more open to embracing this trend and giving it a fashionable twist.
Think of the pale pink satin version that Kaia Gerber wore at the Givenchy SS’20 fashion show. If you had to pay several hundred, or maybe even thousands for a bra top, why wouldn’t you want to show it off as much as you can?
But unlike how it was styled in the mid ‘2000s (we see you Britney and Paris Hilton), we say keep the low, low hip-hugging jeans and thongs back in the early noughties. It’s all about pairing this top with a high-waisted pair of pants or skirt. And while less is usually more, the key to acing this revealing trend is to keep everything else concealed—unless you’re holidaying on an island or hitting the club.
Give your bra-top a fashion edge by layering a t-shirt or larger crop top underneath. Even a chunkier jacket or cardigan would be a great way to balance the sexiness of the top. Our favourite way of styling a bra top? Worn over an oversized shirt for an added masculine touch.
As the temperature starts to soar as we move into February, here’s some bra tops that would be perfect for the heat.
