Taking a pregnancy test can be nerve-racking. And whatever the result may be, you may not want anyone else to know about it. Or that you took a test at all.

But although the test kits available in the market are small, they’re not exactly discreet — they still have to be disposed in the bin. Sure, you can do some wrapping before tossing them, but unless you live alone, you never know who’s going through your trash. And your privacy.

Which is why Lia Diagnostics, a United States-based start-up, has come up with the world’s first flushable pregnancy test. Plus, it’ll not only let your business stay yours, but also help you save the earth — Lia is made of the same plant fibres as most toilet paper and is completely biodegradable.

“Single-use diagnostics are only used for a couple of minutes, and they’re all made out of plastic and non-sustainable materials,” explained co-founder Bethany Edwards to TechCrunch. “It’s been the same stick test since 1987, and that’s kind of crazy.”

In fact, Lia is super environmentally-friendly. It breaks down by 98 percent within three months in soil.

And if you’re wondering, the test has proven to have 99 percent accuracy, which means it works just like any traditional pregnancy test and doesn’t make any sort of compromise.

The product will be released on Amazon some time this year, and prices will start from $12.
