In the competitive world of K-pop where groups compete to release new tracks every few months, it’s not easy to succeed as an idol group, what’s more as a solo artiste.
However, in the past two years, there has been a trend of idol group members pursuing solo projects when their groups are on a break. We daresay that the trend came after HyunA from 4Minute gained massive popularity after her second solo song, “Bubble Pop”, catapulted her to international stardom.
Following her success, more K-pop idols started releasing solo tracks. In 2014, SM Entertainment started a strategy where a member of an idol group would release a solo album. First in line was Taemin from SHINee, who went on to bag awards on music shows with his album. But he’s not the only one who has seen success in their solo endeavour. Here are 11 who also made it.
Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon
Big Bang’s G-Dragon (and all members of Big Bang)
Super Junior’s Kyuhyun
Super Junior-M’s Henry
