YG fans can’t catch a break today. The company just confirmed two pieces of news – and no, it’s not about BIGBANG’s upcoming album.
Rather, the agency confirmed that girl group 2NE1 will be breaking up. Sandara Park and CL have signed on with YG Entertainment as solo artists, and will be pursuing solo careers, but Park Bom didn’t sign a new contract with the agency.
This news came as a shocker because fans were speculating of a 2NE1 comeback happening soon. The group last performed as a quartet at Mnet Asian Music Awards last year.
CL has been promoting as a solo artist since the group’s hiatus, while Sandara has been active in solo projects. Park Bom, who initially went under the radar following a drug scandal, has been out of the public eye since the MAMA performance.

In another devastating piece of news, YG Entertainment also confirmed that Nam Taehyun would be leaving WINNER. The group was on an indefinite break while Taehyun dealt with mental health issues. While recuperating, he was involved in a dating rumour with actress Jung Ryeowon, though both parties have denied the allegations.
In the press release, YG Entertainment wrote, “YG and the rest of the members have been looking forward to Nam Taehyun’s recovery. However, because it’s a problem that he’s been having since he was younger, it’s impossible to predict how long he would take to recover and when he would return. As such, after a consultation with Nam Taehyun, we have decided it would be impossible for him to continue promoting as a member of WINNER. As of November 18, we have cancelled his contract.”
WINNER will continue to promote as a quartet, comprising Mino, Seungyoon, Jinwoo and Seunghoon.
