After news spread this morning about 2NE1’s Minzy looking for a new agency, many Blackjacks (2NE1’s fans) feared for the worse. And their agency, YG Entertainment, just confirmed that the rumours are indeed true – Minzy is leaving the group and company.
YG Entertainment released an official statement to announce her departure. They wrote, “We’re announcing officially that 2NE1’s maknae (youngest member) Gong Minji will no longer be a part of 2NE1.”
The statement also stated that the group’s contract would be expiring come May 5 this year, and that Minzy didn’t agree with the company’s wishes to reform the group during individual talks they had with the members in January this year.
The 22-year-old joined YG Entertainment 11 years ago, before making her debut as a 2NE1 member in 2009, alongside Park Bom, CL and Sandara Park. She is known as the main dancer of the group and is well-loved for her quirky personality.

Korean Singer G.NA Suspected To Be Involved In Prostitution
2NE1 has been on hiatus since 2014 after Park Bom was involved in a drug scandal. The singer had prescription drugs delivered to her grandmother’s address but failed to declare them.
After Park Bom ceased public appearances, Minzy stepped up to take over her singing parts in most of the songs. During this period, she also went to America to attend dance classes.
When she came back to Korea earlier this year, fans speculated that 2NE1 was preparing for a comeback. However, in light of the outcome, it seems that she returned to discuss about the possibility of a contract renewal with YG Entertainment.
The agency announced in the media release that 2NE1 will be making a comeback in summer and will return as a three-member group, with no new additions to the band.
