The Victoria’s Secret show had a hiccup days before it was slated to take place in Shanghai, China – one of its performing artists, Katy Perry, was denied a visa to enter the country. Around the same time, model Gigi Hadid who was due to walk the show announced that she would be skipping this year’s show.
I’m so bummed I won’t be able to make it to China this year. Love my VS family, and will be with all my girls in spirit!! Can't wait to tune in with everyone to see the beautiful show I know it will be, and already can't wait for next year! 🙂 x

Although she didn’t give any explicit reason, many believed that she was too denied a visa after she uploaded a video on social media in which she squinted her eyes “imitate” Buddha, a gesture many condemned as racist.
(Edited: An earlier version of the article stated that she pulled her temples to “imitate” Buddha.)
But they were not the first artists to have been denied visas to set foot in a country. Here are other celebrities who have been banned from various countries.
