What does it take to feel confident in your own skin? For Demi Lovato, it’s all about self-acceptance. Here are four things we’ve learnt from the singer about confidence.

1. It’s all right to not wear make-up
Demi recently created a #NoMakeupMonday hashtag on Instagram, encouraging girls to feel confident without makeup and post selfies of their bare faces.

2. It’s not OK to make jokes about eating disorders
In 2011, the former Disney star lambasted the channel for joking about eating disorder on Shake It Up. She wrote: “I find it really funny how a company can lose one of their actress[es] from the pressure of an EATING DISORDER and yet still make joke about…”

3. Ignoring the people around you might be the best option
Demi recently posted a photo of her bikini body with the caption “Regardless of what society tells you these days… You don’t have to have a thigh gap to be beautiful. It is possible to love your body the way it is.” Yes, sometimes it’s best to not conform to society. #rebelforacause

4. You need to be confident about your own body
In her own words: “This picture makes me feel so many mixed emotions… I remember the day I wore the dress in the very first picture. I remember asking for spanx to flatten my stomach because I use to feel so heavy and “fat”. Now looking at this picture, you can clearly see my hip bones. It makes me sad because I wasted so many years ashamed of my body when I could’ve been living the happy and healthy life I live today. It TRULY just goes to show you that your perceptions can lie to you. OR they can make you learn to enjoy life. Fortunately looking at the picture of myself in the red dress yesterday, I not only feel so grateful for the love and support I’ve had from fans, friends and family, but… I also feel… beautiful. I’m so excited to live my life the way I deserve to and to the complete fullest. Thank you guys once again… I’m so thankful for my Lovatics. I love you… And never forget that staying strong is worth it.”
