Even the least sappy person in the room has to admit Ed Sheeran’s got some pretty catchy songs. The A Team. Thinking Out Loud. Castle on the Hill. Shape of You. You know, all the stuff that’s been on loop just about everywhere.
And if you dig those tracks, you’ll be happy to know that the singer-songwriter has just said that he’s got a song that’s better than Thinking Out Loud on his new album ÷.
“I remember thinking I would never write a song as good as A Team. And then Thinking Out Loud came, and I was like, ‘Oh, OK, well maybe it’s not impossible'”, Ed said in an interview with the BBC.
“So going into this album, there was no worry at all because I knew I’d done it before. It’s not like Thinking Out Loud will be the peak of my career. It’s definitely happened on this album. There’s definitely one that’s better.”
And the song that’s “better”? It’s Perfect, which will be released tomorrow. The song’s about his “beautiful and smart” girlfriend, Cherry Seaborn, and was inspired by “being in love”.
The 26-year-old also talked about his recent song-writing process, revealing that he wrote several songs around one subject before choosing on to make the cut on the album.
“I had in my mind what sound should be on what song,” he explained, “And which subject matter would be on which song – so I’d write 10 songs for that [idea].
Brace yourself for the new earworm.
