Just a month after EXO’s Xiumin enlisted to complete his mandatory military service for South Korea, it seems another member will be enlisting soon.

This morning, Korean news outlet Sports Chosun reported that EXO’s D.O., also known as Do Kyung Soo, will start serving his nation on July 1.

According to the report, he had discussed with his members and applied to serve active duty.

SM Entertainment confirmed the news and said that D.O. had applied to serve the military and was given July 1 as his enlistment date. He will be serving in active duty.

D.O. debuted as a member of EXO in 2012. In 2014, he acted in movie Cart and drama It’s OK, That’s Love. Despite those being his debut acting performance in a movie and drama respectively, his acting earned praises from industry players and critics alike.

He went on to bag awards at various drama and movie awards shows, including APAN Star Awards and Blue Dragon Film Awards.

He landed his first lead role in Unforgettable, a 2016 movie that stars Kim So Hyun as the leading actress. Most recently, he acted in Swing Kids, which was shown in Singapore.

Despite being one of the main vocalists of EXO, he only has had a few official solo releases to his name, namely “Tell Me What Is Love” (duet with Yoo Young Jin), “Scream” and “Don’t Worry” (duet with My Annoying Brother co-star Jo Jung Suk).

Upon completion of his military service, he is likely to act in the third installment of Along With The Gods movie franchise. He acted as a depressed soldier in the previous installments. During previous interviews with the director, he confirmed that D.O. will be acting in the movie. Production is slated to start in 2021, in the same year that D.O. is expected to complete national service.

After news broke out, D.O. uploaded a handwritten letter on the fan board, writing

EXO-Ls, everyone must have been surprised by the sudden news, right?

I wanted to be the first to tell you the news, so my heart is heavy because I feel like it’s a little late.

I wanted to let you know that this was a decision I made after a lot of thought and consideration. I will return healthily and safely.

To the EXO-Ls who always support me, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope your days will be filled with laughter and that you’ll be healthy.

I will serve well and return to greet you with a healthy image.

Thank you.

While Xiumin and D.O. are serving in the army, EXO wil embark on their fifth tour, EXO Planet #4 – EXplOration, with a six-day concert in Seoul.
