EXO’s Xiumin has reportedly sustained a knee injury during Idol Star Athletics Championship (ISAC) today. The oldest member of the K-pop boyband was playing in a futsal match on the sports-themed TV show when he fell and injured his knee.
Fans who attended the recording claimed that the singer was in so much pain that he had to be carried out of the field.
It was said that he only left for the hospital around an hour after sustaining the injury. Some fans claimed that the singer was tackled during the game, but Xiumin apologised to the fans present for falling due to the slippery floor. At the end of the match, VIXX’s Ravi and Leo were seen supporting him on both sides as he walked off the field.

SM Entertainment just released a statement to inform fans that Xiumin suffered a contusion on his knee, which is put in a cast for protection. However, he didn’t suffer any injury on his bones.
This was not the first time a K-pop idol sustained injuries on the annual show. Every year, Korean idols come together to film ISAC, where they take part in various sports activities, such as high jump, relay races and futsal. However, in a bid to garner victory for their teams, some idols overexert or injure themselves.
Former EXO member Tao injured his back during a high jump competition in 2013. Last year, he and GOT7’s Jackson injured their ankles in a basketball tournament during the show. SISTAR’s Bora was also hurt during the 100-metre race three years ago after tripping as she was reaching the finish line.

Despite the likelihood of sustaining injuries, a lot of idols, especially the rookie groups, continued appearing on the show. Super Junior’s Heechul addressed the issue on an episode of Sseol Jeon and said that most idols go on the show for fear that they might suffer disadvantages if they reject the broadcast company.
The broadcast company that airs ISAC is MBC, one of the biggest TV stations in South Korea. The station also airs a weekly music show, Show! Music Core, and other popular variety shows such as Infinite Challenge and We Got Married.
An MBC representative had responded to Heechul’s statement and asserted that none of the idols have been forced to film the show.
