Most of us can only dream of getting a spot at Stanford University, but when GOT7’s Jackson Wang was offered a spot at the school, he rejected it in favour of becoming a K-pop idol.
Before joining his current agency, JYP Entertainment, Hong Kong-born Jackson was a national fencer. He not only ranked 11th in the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics, but also took the top spot the following year at the Asian Junior and Cadet Fencing Championships.
In an interview on a Chinese TV programme, Jackson revealed that he was offered a scholarship at Stanford and University of Hong Kong due to his fencing skills. His peers and family were convinced that if he competed in the Olympics, he could get gold.
However, Jackson had other plans – he wanted to do music and pursue a career in K-pop. That lead him to turning down the scholarships and signing on with JYP Entertainment.
