If we were to be honest, the saying “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never harm me” is no longer relevant in this age where words can reach us faster and in a more direct way than ever, thanks to the advent of technology.
Korean actress Kim Yoojung, best known for her recent drama Moonlight Drawn by Clouds, is a testament of that.
The young actress was hospitalised for shock and stress after garnering criticisms for her behaviour during the recent promotional event for her movie, Because I Love You.
When she was on stage greeting the audience, she was seen picking her nails and resting her weight on one foot – both gestures are seen as signs of disrespect in South Korea.
Despite her apology, netizens continued to bombard her with nasty remarks. Following criticisms about her behaviour, the actress was sent to the hospital on December 26 for stress-induced shock. Her agency, SidusHQ, released a statement saying, “Kim Yoojung was rushed to the hospital after showing symptoms of stress-induced shock yesterday evening (December 26). She is currently in the hospital, so it’s likely that movie promotions and her other schedules will be changed.”
Just last week, she was sent to the hospital because of fatigue.
Her co-star, Cha Taehyun, revealed during an appearance on V app to promote the movie that Yoojung, who had a cold on the day of the incident, is allergic to antibiotics, so every time she fell sick, she would just have to wait it out for the cold to go away because she couldn’t take medicine. He said, “When I heard that, my heart ached as if she was my own child.” He also bade fans to pray for her speedy recovery.
