Korean celebrity Park Joon Hyung (or Joon Park) recently posted a video taken from an episode of a reality TV show on his Instagram post. It wasn’t just a video to promote his appearance on the show – the clip showed the exact moment when he almost became a victim of mugging in Brussels, Germany.
The G.O.D member had travelled to the German city to film Looking For Trouble, a reality TV show where celebs had to sell items to locals to pay for their expenses.
While they were walking on the streets at night, Joon was seen being greeted by a passer-by. Joon, who was raised in America, greeted him back, and before long, he was accosted by two other men and the trio tried to grab his backpack. Joon resisted until they backed off when one of the staff members approached them.
He recalled the incident in an Instagram post two days ago and said he initially thought it was a joke. He wrote, “At first, I thought it was a joke, but then when I realised it was a real situation and they were trying to steal from me, the first thing that came to my mind was to get these crazy guys as far away from the rest of the cast and crew as possible because these cats were not in their right minds.”

After the men said something that was censored on camera, Joon was seen reliving himself of his backpack and trying to attack him, but was stopped by the cast. The censored words were reportedly racial slurs.
Joon, who lived in the US for most of his life, said during the press conference for Looking For Trouble, “I experienced racial discrimination for the first time in a long time in an unfamiliar place. It almost felt like the US in the 1970s and 1980s.”
In the same Instagram post, he said that the rest of the crew, who were across the road, came back with security guards to resolve the situation. He reminded everyone to be careful when they’re going out at night in a foreign country.
He wrote, “So everyone, if you do go travelling and go out at night, please be careful and move in groups and not alone.”
According to USA’s Overseas Security Advisory Council, low-level crimes such as mugging is common in Brussels. They wrote in Belgium 2016 Crime & Safety Report: “In Brussels, pickpocketing, purse snatching, and theft of light luggage/laptops are common at the three major train stations: the North Station (Noordstation or Gare du Nord); the Central Station (Centraal Station or Gare Central); and especially the South Station (Zuidstation or Gare du Midi, the primary international train hub). Small groups of young men sometimes prey on unwary tourists, usually at night and often in Metro stations in Brussels.”
