Korean celebrity couple Lee Hyori and Lee Sangsoon, have reportedly sold their house Sogil-ri, Jeju Island. The couple moved there permanently after tying the knot in 2013. However, since moving in, the couple has appealed time and again to visitors to stop visiting their house and ringing the doorbell to speak to them.
In 2016, they reportedly moved out of the house as they could no longer put up with the incessant disturbance. However, in 2017, it seems they moved back to the house, which became the primary filming site for reality TV show Hyori’s Bed & Breakfast, which sees the singer and her husband playing host to Jeju tourists and turning their house into a bed and breakfast facility.
After the show aired in June last year, Sangsoon posted a message on his Facebook page, pleading for people to stop treating their house as a tourist attraction, ringing the bell and taking photos and videos of them leaving the house. As seen on the show, their dogs start barking whenever people rang the doorbell, so we can only imagine what it’s like when the visitors rang the bell all day long!
Although he said they would no longer be filming anything at the house, half a year later, season two of Hyori’s Bed & Breakfast was filmed at the same house.
The show continued to do garner good ratings, but the audience’s curiosity didn’t seem to be sated despite the couple showing almost every corner of their house on television.
Visitors thronged to the city office in Jeju Island to ask for the couple’s home address, leading the office to put up a notice to ask people to stop asking them for the bed and breakfast address and look it up online instead.
Fans also continued to trespass the couple’s house, taking videos and photos and ringing the doorbell, causing constant disturbance to the couple and their fur kids. And it seems like the couple has finally had enough because they decided to sell off their house – and they’ve gotten a buyer: JTBC, the channel that aired Hyori’s Bed & Breakfast.
The channel bought the house due to “privacy infringement” as a result of the show. They said in a statement, “If a third party were to purchase the site in future, it would be difficult for them to use it as a residence. If it were to be used for commercial purposes, we are worried it might affect the content image of Hyori’s Bed & Breakfast negatively. As such, JTBC has decided to buy the property from Lee Hyori and Lee Sangsoon in order to manage the brand image and protect the cast.”
The couple has moved to Gyeonggi prefecture.
