While it’s widely known that Meghan Markle is dating 33-year-old Prince Harry, she has never spoken about their relationship to the media – until now.

The 36-year-old told Vanity Fair, which featured her on the cover, “We’re two people who are really happy and in love.”

She added, “We were very quietly dating for about six months before it became news, and I was working during that whole time, and the only thing that changed was people’s perception. Nothing about me changed. I’m still the same person that I am, and I’ve never defined myself by my relationship.”

The couple was swept up in a media frenzy after it was known that they were no ordinary friends. Some people raised concerns about her being a divorcee and wondered if she could marry into the royal family.

Obviously, the media portrayal and public perception had an impact on their relationship. Meghan, who is known for her role as Rachel Zane in television drama Suits, told the magazine that the newfound attention has its challenges. She said, “And right out of the gate it was surprising the way things changed. But I still have this support system all around me, and, of course, my boyfriend’s support.”

The two had reportedly met through a mutual friend who helped set up a date for the pair. Meghan and Prince Harry are similar in many ways, including their philanthropic efforts.

A few months ago, various media outlets reported that the Queen has given the couple her blessings to get married, although no marriage plans have been confirmed.
