The controversies in the Korean entertainment circuit hasn’t ended. Singer-actor Park Yoo Chun of JYJ fame has admitted to singing drugs, according the Narcotics Unit of the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency.
They quoted him to say “I was afraid of giving up on myself” and “I think I should admit what I have to and apologise for what I have to.”
The singer was arrested on April 26 on suspicions of purchasing 1.5g of Philopon with his former girlfriend Hwang Ha Na between February and March this year, on three occasions. He was suspected to have injected the drugs five times.
Earlier this month, Ha Na was investigated for usage and distribution of drugs. Through investigations and reporting, it was discovered that a celebrity had provided her the drugs and her ex-boyfriend Yoo Chun came under suspicions. It was also alleged that he had coerced her into using drugs.
He held a press conference to refute the claims and insisted he didn’t use drugs. A few days later, appointed a lawyer to defend him. The next day, police searched his house and collected a hair sample from his head and leg for drug testing.
On April 17, a Korean news outlet reported that the police has found CCTV footage evidence of Yoo Chun buying drugs using the “throwing method”—he wired the money to the drug dealer, and the latter hides the drugs at a location for him to pick up.
A week ago, the test results of his hair samples came back—he was tested positive.
That same day, his company, C-JeS, terminated their contract with him. They said they had backed him up when he categorically denied the allegations but terminated the contract because the trust had been broken.
