You might see ads of Song Joongki tantalising you to visit South Korea on buses and in MRT stations, but in Taiwan, it’s not your oppa who is tempting people to go to the land of kimchi, but girl group member Tzuyu.
The TWICE member, who is known for her beauty, was embroiled in a controversy earlier this year when she acknowledged herself as a Taiwanese despite the ongoing debate of Taiwan being a part of China.

But it looks like her popularity is what is bringing throngs of people to go for a vacation in South Korea. According to Herald Corp, the Korean Tourism Association reported that the country saw more than a three-fold increase in number of Taiwanese visitors.
Experts attributed one of the reasons for the spike in Taiwanese visitors to Tzuyu, who is known to be TWICE’s mascot. The article claimed that Tzuyu’s popularity has improved bilateral ties between South Korea and Taiwan.
