There’s been a lot of talk about the customised skincare trend, so naturally, I didn’t want to lose out—I had to try it for myself to see if a personalised solution was the answer to my sensitive skin issues. Enter Alcheme, a skincare brand developed entirely in Singapore. The brand specialises in creating skincare solutions tailored to each individual—which means I could have a personalised serum that was unique to me.

Alcheme positions itself as a skin concierge—yes, like the information counter. But they don’t just dispense information. They have an online consultation service that’s powered by the latest facial recognition technology. At the start of the consultation, I was asked to upload a selfie (if you’re worried about uploading your photo to the internet, don’t worry, you can skip this step). I then had to answer 12 questions on a range of topics, from my skin type to lifestyle. Interestingly, I also had to select the country I live in, so they could gauge my daily exposure to UV rays and pollution. Whoa.

The product

Immediately after completing the consultation, I was recommended a serum. My bottle contained active ingredients such as Centella Asiatica extract, Moringa seed extract, and Ginseng root extract, which are all botanicals prized for their ability to soothe sensitive skin. A concentrate that nabbed the CLEO Clear Skin Award for Best De-stressing Serum for Sensitive Skin, I was pleasantly surprised at how the online consultation accurately nailed my skin concerns (oily and sensitive) and prescribed a serum formula that was ideal for my reactive skin. I could even choose between fragrance and fragrance-free options.

Alcheme Serum, My Personalised Concentrate, $105.00 for 30ml

Tried and tested

On top of being sensitive, my skin is oily but dehydrated, which means I have to be very careful about what goes on my face. I was glad to find that the Alcheme Personalised Concentrate has an ultra-light texture that penetrates easily, leaving my skin smoother and brighter thanks to the inclusion of hyaluronic acid and vitamin C.

With regular use twice a day, my pores began to look smaller and I began seeing a lot less dehydrated, flaky skin around the sides of my nose—a problem that crops up whenever my skin starts reacting to an ingredient. It’s been working out great so far, so I had the idea of adding the serum to my BB cushion for an extra shot of hydration when I have makeup on. Its super light texture also made it a dream to blend the cushion foundation without altering its consistency.

The results of my experiment? An improved complexion with less flare-ups, which is life-changing for me, as my job in sales require a lot of face time with clients. It also means I no longer have to pile on the makeup because I feel a lot more confident about my complexion now!

The CLEO verdict

If you have a skin type as complicated as mine, you’ll want to ensure that the serum you’re using can address all of your issues without compromising on quality ingredients. Alcheme’s Personalised Concentrate has proven itself to be a winning serum that got along with my sensitive skin to a T, and all I can say is: I’m sold.
